This proposal has been cooperatively developed by the combined Registries, after a long process of consultation with our memberships and communities throughout our respective regions. As the Regional Internet Registry for the Asia-Pacific region, APNIC is seeking inputs from all interested parties in this region, in order that we may finalise this proposal and submit it to ICANN in time for consideration at the Santiago meeting in August. The deadline for the submission to ICANN is 24 July 1999, so inputs should be sent to APNIC by 20 July 1999 at the latest (contact details are provided within the announcement below). We look forward to your inputs and to your support in our efforts, on behalf of our membership and community, to establish the ASO. Best regards, Paul Wilson Director General, APNIC. (with apologies for duplicate postings) Further information about the ASO may be found at the following sites: APNIC: http://www.apnic.net/news/icann RIPE NCC: http://www.ripe.net/info/ncc/icann.html ------------- Original Message ------------- From: owner-members@apnic.net [mailto:owner-members@apnic.net] On Behalf Of APNIC Secretariat Sent: Friday, 9 July 1999 11:30 To: members@apnic.net Subject: [APNIC Members] ICANN ADDRESS SUPPORTING ORGANISATION: PROGRESS UPDATE ICANN ADDRESS SUPPORTING ORGANISATION: PROGRESS UPDATE Regional Registries Prepare to Submit ICANN ASO Proposal The combined boards of the 3 Regional Internet Registries, APNIC, ARIN, and RIPE NCC, met during the INET'99 conference in San Jose last month, to finalise a draft proposal to form the Address Supporting Organisation of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The proposal is the product of consideration of the role of ICANN and the role of the ASO and the Address Council undertaken by the RIRs, their Boards or Executive Committees, and their membership at large, and also includes the incorporation of comment arising from a series of ICANN-sponsored public ASO discussion meetings through the past 12 months. This latest draft ASO proposal is now available at http://www.apnic.net/news/icann/proposal.txt (along with an associated explanatory cover letter at http://www.apnic.net/news/icann/cover.txt). The proposal is for review by RIR members and other interested parties, prior to its planned submission to ICANN, in time for the coming meeting in Santiago, Chile. The deadline for submission is 24 July 1999, and comments are sought by no later than 20 July 1999. For APNIC members and others within the AP region, comments may be sent directly to APNIC at , or to APNIC's public mailing list "apnic-talk@apnic.net" (note that you must first subscribe to apnic-talk in order to send email to this list; do so by sending an email to with the words "subscribe apnic-talk" in the body of the message). Once the proposal is submitted to ICANN (by 24 July 1999), APNIC will be seeking the formal support of our membership to establish the ASO according to this proposal. Expressions of support may be sent to . Further updates on the ASO formation will be posted at http://www.apnic.net/news/icann/. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + APNIC Secretariat Tel: +61-7-3367-0490 Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) Ltd Fax: +61-7-3367-0482 Level 1, 33 Park Road, PO Box 2131, Milton, QLD 4064, Australia + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + * APNIC-ANNOUNCE: Announcements concerning APNIC * * To unsubscribe, send "unsubscribe" to apnic-announce-request@apnic.net * From owner-apnic-announce@ns.apnic.net Thu Jul 15 07:35:52 1999 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by ns.apnic.net (8.9.1a/8.9.1) id HAA14219; Thu, 15 Jul 1999 07:28:15 GMT Received: from int-gw.staff.apnic.net (guardian.apnic.net [203.37.255.100]) by ns.apnic.net (8.9.1a/8.9.1) with ESMTP id HAA14214 for ; Thu, 15 Jul 1999 07:28:14 GMT Received: (from mail@localhost) by int-gw.staff.apnic.net (8.9.1a/8.9.1) id HAA19874 for ; Thu, 15 Jul 1999 07:28:13 GMT Received: from julubu.staff.apnic.net(192.168.1.37) by int-gw.staff.apnic.net via smap (V2.1) id xma019868; Thu, 15 Jul 99 17:28:01 +1000 Received: (from bc@localhost) by julubu.staff.apnic.net (8.8.7/UW7.1.0) id RAA21924; Thu, 15 Jul 1999 17:29:14 +1000 (EST) X-Authentication-Warning: julubu.staff.apnic.net: bc set sender to secretariat@apnic.net using -f Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 17:29:12 +1000 (EST) From: APNIC Secretariat To: apnic-announce@apnic.net Subject: [apnic-announce] IANA delegates IPv6 address space to RIRs Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-apnic-announce@apnic.net Precedence: bulk Reply-To: apnic-talk@apnic.net [Note "reply-to:" field] ******************************************************* IANA delegates IPv6 address space to RIRs ----------------------------------------- On 14 July 1999, at the plenary session of IETF in Oslo, IANA announced that on the basis of the "Provisional IPv6 Assignment and Allocation Policy" Document, jointly developed by APNIC, ARIN, and the RIPE NCC, IANA has delegated the initial ranges of IPv6 address space to the registries. Following IANA's recent delegation of IPv6 address ranges to the Regional Internet Registries, APNIC is now able to provide sub-TLA allocations in accordance with the Provisional IPv6 Assignment and Allocation policies and with our own procedures. It is important to note that because of the provisional nature of the policy document, we expect that IPv6 policies and procedures will evolve with experience. The commencement of IPv6 allocations is a significant landmark in the evolution of the Internet and APNIC looks forward to working with the membership in successfully launching and developing these services. Links to the Sub-TLA Request form, the policy document, an IPv6 FAQ, and more background to the delegations from IANA are available at http://www.apnic.net/drafts/ipv6/ If you have any questions or comments about IPv6 allocation services, please feel free to contact us. ==================================================== REGIONAL REGISTRIES SUBMIT ICANN ASO PROPOSAL (Expressions of Support Requested - see below) The 3 Regional Internet Registries, APNIC, ARIN, and RIPE NCC, have recently finalised and submitted a joint proposal to form the Address Supporting Organisation (ASO) of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). This proposal will be considered for approval at the forthcoming ICANN meeting in Santiago, Chile. The final ASO proposal is the result of numerous discussions within the Registry memberships, communities, and associated fora, involving wide participation by interested parties and a collective effort by all of the Registries. It incorporates inputs received over many months of discussions, and those received more recently since the publication of a final draft proposal. Expressions of Support ====================== The Regional Internet Registries are now calling for explicit expressions of support for this ASO proposal, from all members and interested parties. Full details of the call for expressions of support and links to various documents, including the ASO proposal and associated cover letter to ICANN are available at http://www.apnic.net/news/icann/ ==================================================== + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + APNIC Secretariat Tel: +61-7-3367-0490 Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) Ltd Fax: +61-7-3367-0482 Level 1, 33 Park Road, PO Box 2131, Milton, QLD 4064, Australia + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + * APNIC-ANNOUNCE: Announcements concerning APNIC * * To unsubscribe, send "unsubscribe" to apnic-announce-request@apnic.net *
