This changed behaviour was the result of human error (ie, me) in editing the script which imports the databases of the historical confederations (and others) (JPNIC, KRNIC, TWNIC, CCAIR and AUNIC) into the whois server 'whois.apnic.net'. Due to this error, only the APNIC database was provided at whois.apnic.net, rather than the normal output of APNIC + other db. Our monitoring software did not pick this up as it only checked for the existence of certain objects within the APNIC database. This has been changed to also check for certain objects within the other databases. At this meeting, a number of important decisions were made, including election of Executive Council members and changes to APNIC fee structure and resource management policies. This message is to update you on the most important developments from the meeting: 1. APNIC Annual Report for 1999 2. EC Election Results 3. Membership/Fee Structure 4. IPv6 Fees for Confederations 5. Policy Changes 6. Next Meeting It seems that this meeting was generally regarded as the most successful in APNIC's history. It followed the APRICOT conference, including APNIC's own conference track of tutorials and SIG sessions, which were also regarded as very successful and valuable events. If you attended the meeting, I'd like to thank you sincerely for your time and effort; if not, then I hope to see you at the next meeting! Best regards, Paul Wilson Director General ======== 1. APNIC Annual Report for 1999 The Annual Report for 1999 was released at the Member Meeting, and is now available on the APNIC web site, at: http://www.apnic.net/reports/1999/AnnualReport-1999.pdf You will notice that the report includes the new APNIC Logo, also launched at the meeting. ======== 2. EC Election Results Three EC positions were open for re-election at this meeting, and the following were elected: - Takashi Arano - Che-Hoo Cheng (re-elected) - Geoff Huston (re-elected) With this election, we say goodbye to Toru Takahashi, who has served on the APNIC EC for 4 years, first as Chair and then as Treasurer. The first EC meeting will be held by telephone conference during March 2000. Office holders will be appointed at this meeting. ======== 3. Membership/Fee Structure The new APNIC Membership/Fee Structure was put to a formal vote at this meeting, and approved with amendments. The original proposal is available at: http://www.apnic.net/amm2000/proposals/FeeProposal.htm Amendments are available at: http://www.apnic.net/amm2000/proposals/Amendments.htm ======== 4. IPv6 Fees for Confederations The proposed IPv6 Fee Structure for Confederations was also put to a formal vote at this meeting, and approved, also with amendments. The original proposal is available at: http://www.apnic.net/amm2000/proposals/IPv6fees.htm Amendments are available at: http://www.apnic.net/amm2000/proposals/Amendments.htm ======== 5. Policy Changes During the APRICOT conference, APNIC held a series of open SIG sessions, including an Open Address Policy meeting. At that meeting, presentations were made on a number of policy items, and several of these issues were approved by consensus. A summary of the Address Policy SIG was presented at the APNIC Member Meeting and the consensus items were approved by APNIC members. 5.1 /20 Minimum Allocation It was agreed that APNIC would lower its minimum allocation from /19 to /20. This is to be done by making an announcement to the global community and setting a further 3-month period before the change is implemented. 5.2 Allocations from Class-A address space (61/8) It was agreed that APNIC would start making routing address allocations from its 61/8 address block. Again, APNIC will announce this change and set a 3-month implementation period. 5.3 Confederation Memberships It was agreed that formation of new confederation memberships should continue to be suspended until remaining policy issues are resolved. 5.4 Name-based Web Hosting It was agreed that while APNIC should not make name-based hosting a mandatory criterion for address allocations to Web hosting providers, it should continue to strongly discourage IP-based hosting. ======== 6. Next APNIC Meeting It was decided that APNIC should have another meeting during 2000 and that this meeting should be extended to provide a forum for open policy and technical tracks, including the election of Asia-Pacific members of the ICANN Address Council. While the APNIC Secretariat presented a proposal to hold this meeting in Brisbane, Australia, it was decided that a further call for proposals should be issued, and a decision made on the final location by early April 2000. ______________________________________________________________________ Paul Wilson, Director-General, APNIC http://www.apnic.net ph/fx +61 7 3367 0490/82 * APNIC-ANNOUNCE: Announcements concerning APNIC * * To unsubscribe, send "unsubscribe" to apnic-announce-request@apnic.net * * APNIC-TALK: General APNIC Discussion List * * To unsubscribe: send "unsubscribe" to apnic-talk-request@apnic.net * From owner-apnic-talk@lists.apnic.net Wed Mar 15 13:53:33 2000 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by whois.apnic.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) id NAA165321; Wed, 15 Mar 2000 13:53:31 +1000 (EST) Received: (from majordom@localhost) by whois.apnic.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) id NAA102291; Wed, 15 Mar 2000 13:53:24 +1000 (EST) Received: from guardian.apnic.net (guardian.apnic.net [203.37.255.100]) by whois.apnic.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id NAA165310 for ; Wed, 15 Mar 2000 13:53:22 +1000 (EST) Received: (from mail@localhost) by guardian.apnic.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) id NAA14533 for ; Wed, 15 Mar 2000 13:53:21 +1000 (EST) Received: from hadrian.staff.apnic.net(192.168.1.1) by int-gw.staff.apnic.net via smap (V2.1) id xma014531; Wed, 15 Mar 00 13:53:16 +1000 Received: from wilson (wrk-8.staff.apnic.net [192.168.1.71]) by hadrian.staff.apnic.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) with SMTP id NAA21937 for ; Wed, 15 Mar 2000 13:53:12 +1000 (EST) From: "Paul Wilson" To: Subject: [apnic-talk] [apnic-announce] Next APNIC Meeting - Final CFP Date: Wed, 15 Mar 2000 13:53:09 +1000 Message-ID: <001f01bf8e31$fa644440$4701a8c0@wilson.staff.apnic.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook 8.5, Build 4.71.2377.0 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3110.3 Importance: Normal Reply-To: apnic-talk@apnic.net Sender: owner-apnic-talk@lists.apnic.net Precedence: bulk [Note "reply-to:" field] FINAL CALL FOR PROPOSALS SECOND APNIC MEMBER MEETING FOR 2000 After the very successful Member Meeting in Seoul this month, APNIC is now making plans for a second meeting during 2000, to be held in September or October. The meeting will follow a "conference" format over 3 days, with parallel tracks covering technical and policy aspects of Internet resource management and related topics. It will also provide the venue for election of Address Council members for the Asia-Pacific region. Attendance is likely to be 60-120 delegates in total. This is a final Call For Proposals for a date and venue for the meeting. By making this call, APNIC hopes to identify a meeting opportunity which minimises cost to members in time and travel expense and which takes advantage of local sponsorship and support where available. Proposals may be submitted by APNIC Member organisations, or by any organisation with an interest in supporting APNIC activities. It should be noted that provision of financial support by the proponent is not a necessary part of any proposal. The final date and location of this Meeting will be decided by the APNIC Executive Council, in early April 2000. In order that they can be properly considered, proposals are requested by no later than 31 March 2000, by email to . ______________________________________________________________________ Paul Wilson, Director-General, APNIC http://www.apnic.net ph/fx +61 7 3367 0490/82 * APNIC-ANNOUNCE: Announcements concerning APNIC * * To unsubscribe, send "unsubscribe" to apnic-announce-request@apnic.net * * APNIC-TALK: General APNIC Discussion List * * To unsubscribe: send "unsubscribe" to apnic-talk-request@apnic.net * From owner-apnic-talk@lists.apnic.net Thu Mar 16 08:35:13 2000 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by whois.apnic.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) id IAA105247; Thu, 16 Mar 2000 08:35:12 +1000 (EST) Received: from guardian.apnic.net (guardian.apnic.net [203.37.255.100]) by whois.apnic.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id IAA105231 for ; Thu, 16 Mar 2000 08:35:09 +1000 (EST) Received: (from mail@localhost) by guardian.apnic.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) id HAA27384 for ; Thu, 16 Mar 2000 07:50:56 +1000 (EST) Received: from granger.mail.mindspring.net(207.69.200.148) by int-gw.staff.apnic.net via smap (V2.1) id xma027382; Thu, 16 Mar 00 07:50:37 +1000 Received: from ix.netcom.com (user-33qsdki.dialup.mindspring.com [199.174.54.146]) by granger.mail.mindspring.net (8.9.3/8.8.5) with ESMTP id QAA24879; Wed, 15 Mar 2000 16:50:23 -0500 (EST) Message-ID: <38D01ED9.88255F94@ix.netcom.com> Date: Wed, 15 Mar 2000 15:38:02 -0800 From: Jeff Williams Organization: INEGroup Spokesman X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.08 [en] (Win95; U; 16bit) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: "apnic-talk@apnic.net" Subject: Re: [apnic-talk] [apnic-announce] Annual Member Meeting 2000 - Results References: <001d01bf8e30$2ee97750$4701a8c0@wilson.staff.apnic.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-apnic-talk@lists.apnic.net Precedence: bulk Paul, Where is this meeting to be held?
